About

Moonrise time, and the bearing to face. Moonshot gives you the minute the moon clears the horizon where you are standing, which way to look for it, and whether the ridge in front of you is in the way - for tonight, or for any night weeks ahead. TONIGHT, AT A GLANCE Moonrise and moonset, phase and illumination, the bearing of rise and set ("rises at 125° SE"), how high it climbs, and a plain verdict: Great, Good, or Skip. When the moon comes up during blue hour, or before sunset, it says so — those are the nights. WILL IT COME UP BEHIND THAT RIDGE? The map planner draws tonight's rise and set lines from where you'll stand, out to 15 km. Drag the pin to your spot and watch the lines move — so you know what's between you and the moon before you drive out. POINT YOUR PHONE AT THE MOONRISE The compass rose marks tonight's rise and set as arrows, plus where the moon is right now. On devices with a compass, the rose turns with your phone so the arrows point at the real horizon. LIVE SKY Hold the phone up and the camera view shows the moon's path for tonight drawn over the real sky, from rise to set, with the moon's position right now. NEVER MISS THE RISE Set a reminder from the Tonight card or any planned night: a notification 10 to 60 minutes before moonrise, with the time and bearing in it. PLAN THE SHOT WEEKS AHEAD Check any date. Scan the next 14 nights with rise time, phase and illumination, and see the next six full moons by name. Save the nights you're planning, and they're one tap away. CAMERA SETTINGS THAT WORK A starting exposure for tonight's moon from the Looney 11 rule, adjusted for the phase: pick your ISO and aperture and read the shutter. Then see how big the moon will be in your frame at 100 to 600 mm, full frame or APS-C — before you carry the long lens out. ONE SCREEN, NOT A FLIGHT DECK Everything here is one tap from the tab bar. No tutorial, no modes to learn. WORKS ANYWHERE Use your location once, pick from a list of world cities, or type coordinates for a spot far from anywhere. Everything is computed on your device. Offline except the map planner's base tiles. No account, no subscription, bought once.Read more
